How it works:
The human vision is very adaptable and always spot focused, i.e. only a small part of a scene is consciously regarded (foveal vision) the rest remains in the background (peripheral vision). This small region will be reproduced optimally in the human brain because of the high adaptive properties of our eyes. A camera vision system, in contrast, measures in one way or the other the light level of the whole scene to adjust its adapting parameters (aperture, shutterspeed...) for the reproduction of the scene. This global approach mostly compromises between different scene regions and results in images containing larger regions appearing murky, not very contrasty. This is why we often have the feeling that the camera sees a totally different scene than our eyes saw - in much poorer quality. Contrast represents a major parameter in image quality - a parameter, degraded through the inherent reproduction properties of the camera vision system.

In the last years High Dynamic Range imaging (HDR) evolved, a technique combining several images token with different exposure levels to overcome the regional contrast degrations of the camera. HDR images caused some sensation in the press with images of astonishing colorness, richness in details and a magical aura. The disadvantage of HDR software is that it requires several images, a stativ and a very sensitive photographer's hand to stitch the images together. MagicColors regional colormapping needs only one image to improve degraded contrast regions. The software uses a special color mapping algorithm to redistribute the different color levels more evenly, thus enhancing the contrast of the image.

No need to plan and set up a HDR environment with different image exposure levels and a stativ - even snapshots may be enhanced.
